‘Ideal’ flat on sale for just £9,000 – but buyers will need to overlook the mess
It's billed as an ideal investment for a buy-to-let landlord, but the first job for the purchaser of this one-bedroomed property in a Glasgow suburb will be a serious deep-clean
An “ideal” buy-to-let property in a popular Glasgow suburb is being offered for sale at an incredible £9,000 – but of course there’s a catch.
The “immediate income producing investment opportunity” in Paisley Town centre has a sitting tenant paying £410 per month – but there are one or two other little extras included in the flat.
There is barely a spot in the one-bedroomed flat that doesn’t have some kind of rubbish sitting on it.
The bedroom is so completely packed with bags of clutter that you can barely see out of the window, and the living room is equally messy.
Sellers Future Property Auctions say that the Paisley area is regarded is one of the West of Scotland's most popular rental locations and the flat's an 'ideal' purchase for a buy-to-let investor.
The estate agent points out that, as a University town Glasgow has a sizeable student population and adds that the flat also has convenient access to the the area’s biggest hospital.
That makes the town popular not just with students from Glasgow University but also a wide variety of professionals and key workers including doctors, nurses and other staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
However, anyone planning on moving in will have a sizeable cleaning job on their hands.
The “classic” bathroom looks to be in desperate need of a professional clean and the kitchen is piled high with empty plastic bottles and cardboard boxes.
While Paisley is known to have excellent transport links, with train station and several major bus routes linking the area to the rest of Glasgow and beyond, the buyer will be hoping that at leats of one of those links will connect the flat to an area where a first-class cleaner lives.
The flat is up for auction with a guide price of just £9,000 – compared to similar properties in the same area selling for between £60,000 and £95,000 in the past few months.
The property has been valued at around £50,000 – but that’s without its tenant and all of the mess.
If you’re tempted, the council tax should be somewhere between £1,000 and £1,400 a year and the auction takes place on January 13, 2022, with 15 days left to place your bid.
A similarly untidy property in Greenfields, Redditch, was auctioned almost exactly a year before with a guide price of £55,000.
Potential buyers needed a fair amount of imagination to see past the state of the estate agent's photos.
The bedroom image featured an unmade bed, clothes and trainers strewn on the floor, a stool on its side in a scene reminiscent of Tracey Emin ’s controversial 1998 artwork My Bed.
But it sold at a fraction of the Turner Prize nominee’s £2.5million price tag – perhaps the Paisley property will inspire an artistic landlord to get involved.
