Gun-toting police officers flooded into Cardiff Central station causing major delays and confusion among travellers, with the cause of the incident not currently known

Armed police boarded a train in Wales with journeys around Cardiff Central brought to a halt.

Commuters speaking to WalesOnline revealed trains were stopped as police were responding to an incident near a platform at the station.

The cause of the incident is yet to be confirmed, but images have shown cops flooding the platforms and even getting aboard trains.

The incident is understood to be being dealt with by British Transport Police, rather than South Wales Police.

Speaking to the outlet, one passenger noted his train bound for London was meant to leave at 11.20am, but it was delayed for 40 minutes

Passengers of another train from Cardiff Central to Portsmouth Harbour at 11:25am boarded five minutes before departure only to be told to get off again.

Armed cops were reportedly seen searching platforms 2, 3 and 4.

One passenger, Grace, said that at 11:40am police entered her train carriage and asked to see everyone's hands.

"There were many of them all around our platform and some on other platforms," she said.

WalesOnline reported the scene had quietened down by this afternoon, with just one police van remaining at the station.

Grace said: "We boarded the 11.25am train from Cardiff Central to Portsmouth Harbour, they let everyone board then said we all had to get off the train.

"Five minutes later they let us back on the train. All trains were stopped from arriving and departing the train station

"At 11.32am armed police began arriving around our platform 3 and at 11.40am armed police entered the carriages asking to see everyone's hands, there were many of them all around our platform and some on other platforms. At 11.49am the armed guards began searching all the buildings."
