Jason Platt tried to sue a hotel in Kinsale, Ireland, for an eye-watering £1.49million after claiming he was unable to walk again, but a private investigator uncovered a very different story

A chef bloke who claimed he was left wheelchair bound after falling from a window in a hotel has been spotted walking without an aide and has been accused of fraud as a result.

Jason Platt, 51, was suing the Old Bank Townhouse in Kinsale, Ireland, for a whopping £1.49million after claiming he had suffered life-changing injuries from a third-floor window fall in 2009.

He claimed the injuries left him housebound, unable to work and stuck in a wheelchair.

But in a shocking turn of events a private investigator has since recorded him walking, driving and shopping without a wheelchair – and he now faces eight charges of fraud, The Mirror reports.

And, to make matters worse, the Irish High Court has now refused his damages claim and he is facing extradition to Ireland.

Having appeared via video link at Westminster Magistrates last month to argue against the order, District Judge Sternberg said: “I conclude the requested person’s extradition is neither unjust nor oppressive due to his condition of physical or mental health.”

And on Thursday Platt lodged permission to appeal his extradition decision, however, if unsuccessful he will face trial on eight counts including attempted deception and providing false and misleading information.

The only thing that did fall in his favour was that it was agreed he did suffer serious injury, although the extent of those had been “exaggerated”.

Officials from The Old Bank Townhouse have not commented on the latest developments.

It is not clear how Platt fell out of the third-floor window, either.

The Daily Star has reached out to the hotel's owners for a comment.

No date has been set for a ruling on the extradition.
