Boy, eight, tragically dies after being shot in the face on a farm in broad daylight
Officers arrested a man in his 60s at the scene on suspicion of assault GBH before changing the arrest to suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter, at a farm in Cumbria
An eight-year-old boy has tragically died after being shot in the face on a farm in broad daylight.
Emergency services were called at around 2.50pm yesterday (September 28) to the farm in the Warcop, a small village in the Eden district of Cumbria
The firearm was secured at the scene by police and the boy was taken to hospital by air ambulance having suffered serious and life-threatening injuries to his head and face, Cumbria Police said.
Sadly, the boy died overnight, the force added.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is now underway.

A Cumbria Police spokesperson said: "Police and NWAS [North West Ambulance Service] attended. The firearm was secured at the scene by police and an eight-year-old boy was taken to hospital by air ambulance having suffered serious and life-threatening injuries to his head and face.
"Sadly, the boy has died overnight. Officers arrested a man in his 60s at the scene on suspicion of assault GBH. He remains in police custody but is now under arrest on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter."
