Miserable March looks to have given way to awesome April as the latest weather forecasts show temperatures as high as 24C on the horizon during the Easter break

The Easter bunny will need sunglasses – as downpours disappear for the holiday weekend to be replaced with a 24C (75F) subtropical spring sizzle.

A month of rain finally halts for most from Wednesday, with blue skies and pleasant 16C sunny spells for Easter.

Heatwaves are on the way as the Met Office said a much-hotter-than-normal three months from April to June is two-and-a-half times more likely than average.

Easter heat was shown on a weather map with “impressive warmth” on the cards from later in April.

24C sizzles into May are due thanks to south-westerly subtropical air, with Britain set to swelter into summer.

Warm spring spells have hit 24C by the first half of May in recent years, Met Office records show.

The Met Office outlook from April to June, showing the probability of much-hotter-than-average temperatures is 50 per cent compared to the usual 20 per cent, said: “The chance of warm conditions is higher than normal.

“And there is an increased chance of heatwaves compared to average.”

A Met Office forecaster said: “After more weather systems bring scattered showers and spells of rain, drier and brighter interludes are expected across the UK in the period from later next week to April 14.”

Ex-BBC and Met Office forecaster John Hammond of weathertrending said: “After a very wet March, many of us can look forward to a drier and warmer spell through April.

“High pressure will build across the country through the early days of April.

“Dry weather should prevail for Easter, with strong spring sunshine. The drier spell should continue at least until mid-month.

“The strengthening sun will bring a pleasant feel, with warm days.

“And if high pressure sits over us later in April, impressive warmth will build, although North Sea winds could restrict warmth to western parts.”
