England have reached the semi-finals of the Women's World Cup after they had to dig deep when they faced a resolute Colombian side on Saturday morning in Sydney

England's Women's World Cup dreams are still alive after the Lionesses battled past a tough past Colombian side to reach the semi-finals.

Sarina Wiegman's side had to it the hard way - and the Lionesses found themselves one goal down to the South Americans just before half-time. Ahead of England's clash, in the knockout rounds of the 2023 Women's World Cup, no team had come from behind to win.

And the Lionesses looking unsteady on their feet when Leicy Santos pulled off a spectacular lob to beat Mary Earps, however, Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo had other ideas as they both found the net either side of half-time.

The Lionesses started off the better of the two teams, and Wiegman's side had seemingly shaken off the cobwebs of the group stages. However, Colombia looked dangerous, especially though their star-striker: Mayra Ramírez.

Colombia have been one of the dark horses of the tournament - dumping out Germany, who England beat in last year's Euros final.

And the South Americans looked to have yet another shock on the cards when Santos brought back memories of the 2002 World Cup for England fans, lobbing a stranded Earps.

England weren't behind for too long, and an almighty mix-up at the back allowed Hemp to notch the easiest goal of her career.

All Hemp had to was roll the ball into the back of the net, allowing England an instant response before the half-time whistle. And England continued their pressure into the second half, with Colombia retreating deeper and deeper into their half.

However, it took a stroke of luck just past the hour mark to finally nudge the Lionesses ahead. Russo was quickest to respond when a loose ball made its way into the Colombian's box, and she lashed he shot across the face of the goal and into the bottom corner.

England had to dig deep to hold off Colombia - who had a couple of half chances in the final few minutes.

However, England held firm, and they will now face the hosts Australia for a shot in the World Cup final.
