Four UK cities named on world's top 100 most dangerous - but not where you think

The UK's most dangerous cities have been revealed with four locations making the list of the top 100 most dangerous cities in the world, according to the Crime Index

A new crime index has unveiled the world's most perilous cities, with four UK locations unfortunately making the list.

Venezuela's capital, Caracas, tops the chart as the city with the highest crime rate, scoring a whopping 82.0 in crime against a paltry 18.0 in safety. The data, compiled by numbeo.com, includes figures for cities worldwide, featuring both expected and surprising entries.

Several UK cities have been deemed more dangerous than London, with Coventry earning the dubious title of the UK's most dangerous city, ranking 41st globally.

Birmingham follows closely at 44th, while Manchester is third among UK cities, coming in at 99th place. London itself ranks 96th in the global crime league.

Cities in South Africa occupy several top spots, ranking 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, while Brazil also scores high for crime, with cities in 7th, 9th, and 10th position. Central and South American countries like El Salvador (55th) and Argentina (45th) are also featured, reports the Mirror.

However, popular holiday destinations for Brits, such as Mexico City and Cancun in Mexico, also rank highly despite their sunny appeal.

Earlier this month, Brits planning their summer getaways were warned to consider avoiding the world's 100 most dangerous cities before booking. Mexico, with its crystal-clear waters and sunshine, may seem like an ideal holiday destination, but there are areas best avoided due to high levels of violence.

The UK's foreign office advises against all but essential travel to several regions of the country plagued by cartel-related violence.

This violence is now encroaching on popular beach resorts like Cancun, where tourists once felt safe. An analysis by worldpopulationreview.com listed the ten most dangerous cities globally, all located in just three countries.

Mexico tops the list with five cities, followed closely by Brazil with three and Venezuela with two. Last month, a British man was found dead in his hotel room in Cancun, with his wife beside him bearing arm cuts.
