Chelsea have turned to Graham Potter to lead them this season after Thomas Tuchel was savagely sacked by Blues new owner Todd Boehly just days after the transfer window shut

Graham Potter has shot straight into the top four of highest-paid coaches in the Premier League after becoming Chelsea's new manager.

The Englishman was the first pick to replace Thomas Tuchel, who was sacked by Todd Boehly last week after an indifferent start to the season. There was widespread shock at the news, especially considering that the transfer window had only just shut.

But it has given the chance for Potter, who worked wonders at Brighton and Swansea as well as Ostersunds in Sweden, to shine at a top club. And after signing a five-year contract, there is clear faith in his methods.

And his pay packet takes him to fourth in terms of best-paid managers in the Premier League after receiving a major boost in his salary after departing Brighton for Chelsea.

With the Seagulls, the 47-year-old was earning around £2million a year but at Stamford Bridge that has quintupled to £10m a year - more than his predecessor Tuchel, who won them the Champions League, was on.

Only three managers in the top division earn more than Potter at Chelsea - Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, on £19m a year, Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp, on £16m a year and Antonio Conte, on £15m a year at Tottenham.

Brendan Rodgers has a salary of £10m, as much as Potter, while Manchester United pay Erik ten Hag £9m a year. Arsenal fork out even less for Mikel Arteta, who is on £8.3m a year.

Potter's interim replacement is Adam Lallana - a shock appointment but perhaps down to the fact that the recently-departed coach took plenty of his backroom staff with him to west London.

And the former Liverpool midfielder is earning £4.7m, putting him 12th on the list of pay packets among Premier League managers. He sits behind Ralph Hasenhuttl, on £6m a year, and Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and David Moyes, who all earn £5m a year.

Below Lallana is Marco Silva (£4.5m), Patrick Vieira and Eddie Howe (£4m), Jesse Marsch (£3.5m), Bruno Lage (£2.5m), Thomas Frank and Steve Cooper (£1.5m) while Gary O'Neill's wages are not known since taking over from Scott Parker.
