A female passenger travelling on United Airlines Flight UA880 from Houston to Heathrow has tragically died after suffering a fatal heart attack 30,000ft in the air

An aeroplane passenger died on a jumbo jet at 30,000ft today (Wednesday, October 5) with medics rushing onto the runway to meet the plane.

The woman reportedly suffered a fatal heart attack during a flight from Houston, US, to Heathrow, London.

She was travelling in economy on United Airlines Flight UA880 when she suddenly went into cardiac arrest.

The nine-hour and 10-minute long flight took off yesterday (Tuesday, October 4) and was scheduled to arrive in the UK at 7.40am today.

Police and medics were called in advance at around 6.30am to meet the jet when it touched down on the runway.

At 7.07am, two cycle paramedics and an incident response officer boarded the aircraft on the runway at Heathrow's Terminal 2 to recover the woman's body.

They also spoke with the distraught crew members and passengers - including children - who had watched on helplessly as the tragedy unfolded.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson told The Sun: "We were called at 6:33am today to reports of a passenger having suffered a cardiac arrest onboard a flight due to arrive at Heathrow Airport Terminal 2.

"We sent two cycle paramedics and an incident response officer. Sadly, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene."
