As the 2024 Olympics in Paris come to an end, an urban explorer has shared the eerie remains of a stadium abandoned and left to rot after the most history games to take place in recent mem

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are drawing to a close this week, but what becomes of the venues once the fanfare is over?

Urban explorer Mr Airborne has attempted to answer that question by visiting one of the key homes of the Olympics in 2004. That historic games was the one where the grand competition went home, as it was held in Athens, Greece.

The Faliro Olympic Beach Volleyball Centre officially opened its doors on 2 August 2004, just weeks before the games were set to commence. However, by August 2014, the venue had fallen into disuse.

In a Facebook video that garnered 10,000 views and hundreds of likes, the 29-year-old reveals the dilapidated and decaying site's condition. "Inside the stadium is quite eerie and gives that apocalyptic feel," Birmingham-based Mr Airborne said.

"It was completely derelict and the roof was starting to come away due to the wind from the sea. Everywhere was very run down."

Although there are current proposals to refurbish it into a courtroom, the stadium still appeared "ghost-like" when Mr Airborne visited earlier this year.

Externally, graffiti covers the walls, with rust slowly consuming the metal staircases. While the seating remains intact, its grey hue and dust-coated surface suggest it hasn't been used in a long while.

Mr Airborne said: "It was fascinating to see all the chairs in the stands still there. Trees had grown in the middle of the stadium where there was once a volleyball net. Olympic memorabilia was scattered around and bits of equipment."

He, along with his mates Will and Jamie, managed to gain access to the site through a fallen fence at the back. However, their adventure was cut short when the police were alerted a few hours later, escorting the trio back to their vehicle.

Mr Airborne claims no further action was taken against them. Now, as the Paris Olympics draw to a close, he's left wondering about the fate of these stadiums.

He continued: "Honestly, this is just a recurring theme all around the world and we are a throw away society. This is just one of thousands of locations I have explored that money has just been thrown down the drain and buildings left to decay. But this is what I love, and the more abandoned buildings, the more there is for me to explore."
