News that Levi Bellfield has confessed to the killings of Lin Russell and her daughters might see Michael Stone released as authorities review his case, but he would leave behind no shortage of beasts
Twisted killer Levi Bellfield's confession to murdering a mother and daughters could see a man released from prison after he was sentenced to life for the crimes and sent to the notorious HMP Franklin.
Lin Russell, 45, her two daughters, nine-year-old Josie and Megan, six, as well as their dog Lucy, were tied up and savagely beaten with a hammer in the brutal attack in Chillenden, Kent, in 1996.
Michael Stone, 62, was nailed for the killings and has been banged up for 26 years, and is currently in HMP Franklin AKA Monster Mansion alongside Levi Bellfield.
News that Bellfield has confessed to the killings of Lin and her daughters might see Stone released, as authorities review his case, but he would leave behind no shortage of beasts.
In the past the prison, which opened in 1983, has housed some of the UK's worst criminals such as serial killer Harold Shipman, infamous Peter Sutcliffe 'The Yorkshire Ripper' and child-killer and rapist Colin Pitchfork.
Today, along with Bellfield and killer policeman Wayne Couzens, some of the more notorious inmates being incarcerated at the prison include Ian Huntley who brutally killed schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, and 'morgue monster' David Fuller, a double murderer who sexually abused more than 100 female corpses.
Other notorious inmates include Lee Rigby’s killer Michael Adebolajo, nail bomber David Copeland and Sally Anne Bowman’s murderer Mark Dixie.
They are all housed in single cells that include a TV, washbasin and toilet facilities.
Prisoners are rewarded for their good behaviour with game consoles and DVD players.
The prison only holds male prisoners who are over 21 years of age, and whose sentences are usually four years or more, as well as life sentences and high-risk remand prisoners.
"Eight were classed as serious, with the victims of these incidents receiving injuries requiring hospital treatment," noted inspectors.
The prison even has a dedicated 'Terrorist Wing', the first of its kind in the UK, which was erected to keep their poisonous rhetoric away from impressionable inmates.
The 'prison within a prison' is reportedly home to, among others, Hashem Abedi, who helped organise the 2017 Manchester Arena attack.
ITV reported he was seen to associate with a former Taliban fighter, who’s also been jailed for terrorism offences, when their crew visited the prison.
The channel reported only one of the five prisoners on the wing "is actively engaging in any attempt to deradicalise," and it is not Abedi as he "refused".
The unit is designed to "protect the many from the few",' according to one prison officer, interviewed by the Mail on Sunday, who had a tour of the wing.
"Separation centres are critical to isolating the most radical offenders, who seek to poison the minds of other prisoners with their perverse ideologies," then Justice Secretary Dominic Raab told the title.
