Man on 'all kinds of drugs' crashed car through airport gates and 'tried to board planes'
Bryan J. Parker, 58, was caught on police bodycam footage confessing to taking cocaine and pot while being arrested on suspicion of crashing his Mustang and trying to hop on multiple planes
A man high on “all kinds of drugs” has been arrested on suspicion of driving his car through an airport gate and trying to hop on multiple planes.
Bryan J. Parker, 58, is seen on police bodycam footage being handcuffed after he allegedly sped through a federally regulated gate at Daytona Beach International Airport in Florida, US. The man was “highly intoxicated” during the incident on Wednesday (March 25), according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Department.
Parker, from the Holly Hill area in Florida, allegedly sped his Ford Mustang through the airport’s gate and across an active runway. He then ditched his car and allegedly tried to board at least two empty planes.
According to airport officials Parker nearly hit a student-training plane on the runway during the chaotic incident.
Parker confessed to police he had earlier attended an AA meeting, when the “next thing I knew” he was “doing cocaine, drinking and smoking pot”.
“So you were doing all kinds of drugs and ran through a gate?” a deputy asks him in the bodycam footage released by the department. “Yeah and I crashed my car,” Parker replied.
“What’s my car doing over there? What the f*** is my car doing over there?” he muttered as police hauled him into the back of a patrol car.
Nobody was harmed during the course of the alleged drug-fuelled joyride, authorities said.
Parker now faces a long list of charges, including attempted aircraft piracy, burglary of a conveyance, felony trespass (airport), exposure of a sexual organ, criminal mischief, DUI property damage, and refusal to submit to testing, police said.
“We would like to commend the eyewitnesses who immediately called 911 to report the incident, and the Air Traffic Controller who quickly reported the suspicious vehicle and took action to ensure the safety of airfield operations,” Daytona Beach International Airport wrote in a statement.
“The safety and security of the traveling public is always Daytona Beach International Airport’s number one priority,” the airport said.
“We understand there are many questions about yesterday’s incident. The information the airport can release is limited as this is an ongoing investigation.”
