Man Utd desperate for Mason Greenwood transfer before summer tour as he's set for return
Mason Greenwood is currently in limbo at Manchester United but is expected to show up at Carrington for pre-season training if he is not sold before July 8
Manchester United are desperate to sell Mason Greenwood to the highest bidder before the team's summer tour of the United States.
United will have to allow the 22-year-old striker to report back for pre-season training, if no deal can be struck with another club. Greenwood spent last season on-loan at Spanish club Getafe, where he scored eight goals in 33 league games, and is keen to leave United for good.
Lazio, Napoli and Juventus are all keen on the striker, but unwilling to meet United's asking price of around £35m. Erik ten Hag's squad report back to Carrington on July 8 - and Greenwood is expected to show up.
But the real dilemma facing United bosses is whether or not to allow Greenwood to travel to America next month if he hasn't been sold. Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS colleagues fear allowing Greenwood to be involved on the trip would go down badly with club sponsors.
Charges of attempted rape, assault causing actual bodily harm and controlling and coercive behaviour against Greenwood were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service. But United were criticised over their handling of Greenwood - after considering allowing him to be reintegrated into the team.
Fearing a damaging backlash, United changed their minds and sent him out on loan instead. United want to sell Greenwood and use the revenue generated from his sale to strengthen the squad. Greenwood has not played for United since being suspended in January 2023, following his arrest.
