EXCLUSIVE: Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has been in sensational form since the World Cup - and Old Trafford chiefs are in no mood to let him go on the cheap if he leaves the club

Manchester United will slap a whopping £120million price-tag on Marcus Rashford this summer.

That is how much the Reds will demand for their prolific hitman, 25, should the unthinkable happen and they are forced to sell him at the end of the season.

Rashford, with 22 goals in all competitions this term, has 16 months left on his current contract after United triggered a one-year option to stop him becoming a free agent in June.

But with the England striker still to sign a new deal on the Old Trafford table, worth around £300,000-a-week, it is inevitable he will be targeted by Europe’s leading outfits as long as the stalemate persists. Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are expected to lead the chase for one of the game’s most sought-after talents.

And Barcelona, who felt the full force of Rashford in the 2-2 Europa League first-leg thriller at the Nou Camp last Thursday, are also watching developments closely.

But that trio will have to break the bank to get their hands on the revitalised United ace. During the World Cup finals, the Reds hierarchy valued Three Lions hot-shot Rashford, with 51 caps, at around £80m.

But that figure has soared considerably, courtesy of his blistering form since Qatar - he has scored 14 times in 16 games - and Chelsea’s record outlay in the January window.

With the Blues spending £105m on relatively-inexperienced Enzo Fernandez, United believe Rashford is worth £120m - even with only 12 months to run on his existing £200,000-a-week contract.

Of course, United boss Erik ten Hag, who has been key to Rashford’s amazing season, is desperate to retain this top scorer moving forward.

Whether he does may well depend on how the on-going £4billion-plus battle to buy the Premier League giants works out over the coming weeks and months.

British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos Group and Qatari Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani submitted rival bids before Friday’s 10pm ‘soft’ deadline.

If the club’s American owners, the Glazers do decide to sell up, then the new board’s main priority will be to tie down Rashford long-term as soon as possible.
