Meet the world-class XI that is available for completely free in January transfer window

Some of the biggest names in football who are in their final year are still at odds with their respective clubs over signing a new contract - here's XI that could be with a fresh side in 2022

Jaws dropped when Paris Saint-Germain announced during the last transfer window that they had signed Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Gianluigi Donnarumma each on a free transfer.

One of the world’s richest clubs didn’t need to ****** their enormous wealth to obtain some of the greatest players on the planet, salary costs withstanding.

Well luckily for the rest of Europe, they can now follow suit this month, with some massive names with their contracts up.

Players entering their final six months can sign pre-contractual agreements as soon as New Year’s Day.

And there’s plenty who fit these criteria.

To make things easy, we have forged the best XI for your viewing pleasure.

Goalkeeper - Hugo Lloris (Tottenham)

This year marks Hugo Lloris’ tenth at Tottenham - but could it be his final?

The 35-year-old has been linked with a move back to his boyhood club Nice but nothing firm from has emerged just yet.

Spurs’ keeper kept his 100th Premier League clean sheet in April of this year while he made four consecutive shutouts for the first time ever in the Euro 2020 warm-ups.

Despite his veteran age, Lloris remains as sharp as lemon.

Cesar Azpilicueta (Chelsea)

Chelsea now have a wingback problem with Ben Chilwell out until the end of the season and Reece James being taken off in the first-half of Brighton’s draw with the Blues at Stamford Bridge.

This might make the club a bit more urgent in tying up a deal for the Spaniard, but there’s also the notion that Thomas Tuchel could look to the transfer market, especially when Manchester City running away with the title.

Whatever happens, Cesar Azpilicueta will go down as one of the most underrated players to ever grace the Premier League.

Antonio Rudiger (Chelsea)

Out of the several names who are out of contract in Chelsea’s backline, Antonio Rudiger seems the most significant.

A leader who possesses physicality as well as superb ball control, the German will be sorely missed.

At 28 years old, the former AS Roma player still has plenty to offer, which is why Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have been heavily linked.

He’s rejected a contract offer from his current club already, with the price deemed too low, but perhaps with the right amount, the Blues’ talisman could stay put.

Thiago Silva (Chelsea)

At 37 years old, it’s remarkable that Thiago Silva still remains one of the most effective defenders at the top level.

Since moving from PSG, he’s fitted in brilliantly at Stamford Bridge and has been a solid performer whenever given game-time.

He’s yet to put pen to paper to remain in west London beyond 2022 and so far there’s been no reported interest.

Niklas Sule (Bayern Munich)

West Ham and Newcastle have been linked with Niklas Sule in recent weeks. The German centre-back has been outstanding at Bayern Munich but contract talks still remain up in the air.

There has been perhaps to be a degree of animosity between the 26-year-old and his current club, according to reports, making his departure all the more likely.

Clubs ought to be frothing at the mouths for the defender.

Paul Pogba (Man Utd)

Paul Pogba’s constant tangle with supposed imminent departure has been ongoing almost ever since he arrived.

His performances have been mercurial, his relationship with the fans polarising, while agent Mino Raiola hasn’t helped in adding to the friction.

But Pogba will be out of contract in the summer, and at 28, this seems the most likely time that he will finally bow out.

Luka Modric (Real Madrid)

It wasn’t too long ago Luke Modric pipped Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to the Ballon d’Or. Though his peak years are behind, Modric still is a world-class player.

Now at 36, Modric will surely be looking at where to spend the rest of his career.

He’s expected to sign a new deal with Los Blancos, but he will be no short of suitors.

Lorenzo Insigne (Napoli)

Lorenzo Insigine had a blinding Euro 2020 campaign and still remains a hugely influential figure in the south of Italy.

Surprisingly, the winger has been linked mostly to FC Toronto, who play in the MLS.

It would be a slightly premature move for the player who’s only just 30, but no doubt an array of other offers will come in, including Napoli.

Kylian Mbappe (PSG)

Kylian Mbappe will become a Ballon d’Or winner eventually. But at which club?

It’s looking more unlikely it will be PSG, with the Frenchman having so far rejected a reported six new contract offers from PSG.

He has his eyes firmly on Real Madrid, the La Liga leaders.

PSG had rejected £200m offer from Real last summer – so there will be something quite amusing if Real are able to nab the 23-year-old on a free next month. (For some anyway.)

Ousmane Dembele (Barcelona)

Ousmane Dembele’s agent has been very busy, with the attacker linked to almost every club imaginable.

Even Newcastle are reported to be interested in Barcelona player.

Since joining the Catalans from Borussia Dortmund, things just haven’t worked out for the 24-year-old.

Injuries certainly haven’t helped - but there is the sense that should he find his form, Dembele will be a world-beater.

Andrea Belotti (Torino)

At the peak of his career, Andrea Belotti was heavily linked to several elite clubs in 2017 but nothing ever materialised.

He remains at Torino where his contract is up in the summer.

The striker only managed 13 goals in 35 Serie A clubs last season, but maybe it’s somewhere else where he can refind his form.
