'Nearly all homes are haunted' reveals ghost expert who lived with chain-smoking spirit
EXCLUSIVE A paranormal investigator has claimed that more than 90% of us likely have ghosts in our homes, and offered advice about what to do if you suspect you might be living alongside the supernatural
Many of us are terrified to encounter a ghost, with most of us either fearing the paranormal or not believing in it at all.
But one ghost hunter says that otherworldly spirits are much closer than we think - and you may have been living alongside them all your life.
Paranormal investigator Rob Pyke said: "Chances are you probably have, maybe a relative, somebody, in the house with you.
"A good 90 or more percent of us have a spirit in our houses.
"Whether they're just looking out for us, whether they want to make themselves known to us or not it's up to them."
Pyke has been investigating the paranormal for 40 years, and even founded Veritas Paranormal, a ghost-hunting tour group he runs that donates all profits to various charities.
And while the prospect of having an unwanted tenant in your house might be terrifying to some, Pyke says there's nothing to fear, and even had a spooky lodger of his own at one point.
"We had an old miner called Arthur living in our old house," he shared.
"We used to have the smell of tobacco waft past us and that's how you'd know he was there, it was absolutely fine.
"We lived in the house. He lived in the house, he might live in there now."
And while the prospect of an invisible roommate may not have appealed before, Pyke reassures that ghosts are usually pretty respectful house guests - and they won't even make your bills go up.
"To quote [historian] Richard Felix, if ghosts had a job, it wouldn't be to scare people," Pyke continued.
"They're just continuing to crack on live their life, you know, they're not down there to jump out of a corner and say 'boo' or anything like that.
"There's nothing to be afraid of ghosts whatsoever. The only problem is, you don't know who they are. You wouldn't invite a stranger in."
So what should you do if you suspect you're living with a ghost? Pyke has some words of wisdom - but it might not be what you'd expect.
"Would I say communicate, find out who it is? Now, because you are then encouraging and acknowledging their presence. They're not there to scare you. Just completely ignore them."
