Ralf Rangnick takes aim at two "sloppy" Man Utd stars in Young Boys draw
Manchester United finished their Champions League group stage campaign with a 1-1 draw against Swiss side Young Boys after Ralf Rangnick opted to make 11 changes
Ralf Rangnick criticised his side for "sloppy" finishing after Manchester United drew 1-1 with Young Boys at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
United were already assured of their place in the last 16 of the Champions League, so Rangnick took the opportunity to make 11 changes to his side.
The hosts took the lead at Old Trafford when Mason Greenwood produced a brilliant volley from Luke Shaw’s cross.
But it didn’t last, with Fabian Rieder taking advantage of a slack pass from Donny van de Beek to curl in a brilliant equaliser before half-time.
United had chances to retake the lead through Juan Mata, Anthony Elanga and Amad, but could not convert them.
Young Boys needed to win to stay in Europe and they carved out some good chances at the other end, yet could not beat Dean Henderson or Tom Heaton.
Rangnick was fairly satisfied with the result, but said his side could have been out of sight had they been more clinical in front of goal.
"I was fully aware before the game with this team we played today [that] they haven’t played together, not only with regard to formation but also as a team," he told BT Sport.
"The first half hour we did okay. We had a few unforced errors but at least we had control of the game.

"We should’ve been minimum 2-0, if not 3-0 up. We had two great opportunities, one from Amad and the other from Mata, but we didn’t score. We were a bit sloppy with those situations.
"We had a third one with Elanga so we could have scored three or four goals, but we conceded the equaliser and we were not defending high enough, not proactive enough.
"And we could have also conceded more goals so in the end if the score ended 3-3 or 4-3 nobody could’ve complained."
Rangnick decided to give opportunities to youngsters, starting Elanga and Amad and bringing Teden Mengi, Shola Shoretire, Charlie Savage and Zidane Iqbal off the bench.
But the German manager refused to categorise his starting XI as an experiment ahead of this weekend’s Premier League game away against Norwich.
"As I said, it wasn’t an experiment. I did it on purpose because I wanted to save the player’s energy for Norwich on Saturday," Rangnick said.
"What was really annoying was the way we gave a goal away because we played too many balls into the first line of their pressing area.
"This was also the case with the goal we conceded we could’ve cleared the ball easily and whenever we played the ball into the second or third line.
"We were always dangerous. I told them that before the game, but still they played in that situation a five-metre pass and they were just waiting for the ball. It was more or less a pressing imitation."
