Songbird is an open-source customizable music player that's under active development.

We're working on creating a non-proprietary, cross platform, extensible tool that will help enable new ways to playback, manage, and discover music. There are lots of ways to contribute your time to the project. We'd love your help!

There are several features we're proud of, but we'll be the first to admit that others need ironing out, are experimental, or are just plain missing. There's still a lot to do.

Songbird promises to be the Firefox of media players.

Songbird's system requirements

Windows


    * Windows XP, Windows Vista


Minimum Hardware:


    * 733 MHz Pentium III CPU (Recommended: 1.5 GHz Pentium IV or comparable)

    * At least 256 MB of physical RAM (Recommended: 512 MB)

    * At least 40 MB of available space on your hard drive

    * 16 bit sound card (Recommended: 32 bit Sound Card)

    * Speakers or headphones



Mac


    * Mac OS X 10.4 or later


Minimum Hardware:


    * Macintosh computer with an Intel x86 processor

    * At least 512 MB of physical RAM

    * At least 200 MB of available space on your hard drive



Linux
The Songbird QA team has tested Songbird on Ubuntu 7.10 32-bit & 64-bit, and Fedora 8 32-bit. Please note that Linux distributors may provide packages for your distribution which have different requirements.


    * Linux kernel - 2.2.14 or later with the following libraries or packages:


          o glibc 2.3.2 or later

          o XFree86-3.3.6 or later

          o gtk+2.0 or later

          o fontconfig (also known as xft)

          o libstdc++6



Minimum Hardware:


    * 233 MHz Intel Pentium II or AMD K6-III+ CPU (Recommended: 500 MHz or greater)

    * At least 64 MB of physical RAM (Recommended: 128 MB or greater)

    * At least 52 MB of available space on your hard drive

    * 16 bit sound card (Recommended: 32 bit sound card)

    * Speakers or headphones

De entre os vários plug-ing, destaca-se o MediaFlow, que permite ter uma navegação a lá iTunes, já que a aparência em geral tem bastantes parecenças com este...Mas isso começa a tornar-se geral, parece-me que a GUI dos media players estão a convergir...


Experimentem e digam o que acham deste deste player bastante promissor e grátis!
