Viktor Gyokeres has been left furious with Sporting Lisbon for not allowing him to leave the club, as his transfer saga with Arsenal and Manchester United rumbles on

Viktor Gyokeres has snubbed peace talks with Sporting Lisbon as tensions sour over his transfer drama, leaving Premier League titans Manchester United and Arsenal eager for his signature this summer.

While it looked like Arsenal had the edge in snagging the Swedish goal machine, fancying a switch to the North London squad rather than a move to Old Trafford, the deal’s hitting snags with Sporting playing hardball over the fee. Gyokeres is seething, feeling double-crossed by the Portuguese chiefs' supposed promise of letting him pack his bags.

He's even hinted at downing tools to push through a move. Sporting tried to mend fences, calling for emergency talks with their top player, but got the cold shoulder instead. Record reports that despite Sporting's olive branch offer, Gyokeres’ crew has refused to entertain any offer of a sit-down.

Currently basking on holiday in Saint Tropez, the ex-Coventry City striker isn't rushing back for team duties, despite interest in his signature from across Europe. But he finally broke his silence last week, reports the Mirror.

Putting out a message on his Instagram story, he stated: "There is a lot of talks at the moment, most of it is false. I will speak when the time is right."

Sporting president Federico Varandas has come out swinging in the drama surrounding the club's talisman, insisting that he won't be pushed around. He declared: "One thing you should already know is me better. Threats, blackmail and insults don't work with me.

"I can guarantee that Viktor Gyökeres will not leave for €60m+10m (£51m+£8.5m) because I never promised him that. This game that the agent is playing only makes the situation worse. To this day, Sporting has not had an offer for Viktor Gyökeres, neither today nor last season."

Varandas went on to shed light on the behind-the-scenes dealings. "I think it's fair to explain the whole process. The process started last year when the season ended, Sporting were champions and had a fantastic season," he said.

"During the transfer window we realised that Viktor was going to stay at Sporting because we didn't receive a single offer for him.

"When the season started, the agent approached Hugo Viana several times, asking if we could add an extra fee to the contract if he scored 'x' goals; I gave Viana the opportunity to negotiate, within reason."

Despite being snubbed by Real Madrid, Gyokeres has caught the eye of Juventus, who are reportedly ready to splash out a hefty £11m annually to bring him to Turin, funded by a huge summer selling spree at the Serie A giants.

Arsenal have temporarily shelved their negotiations for Gyokeres after their initial offer was knocked back. They're now zeroing in on a deal for RB Leipzig's ace Benjamin Sesko, amid fresh whispers that the Gunners have settled on personal terms.
