Liverpool ended the weekend leading the Premier League table as title rivals Manchester City and Arsenal faltered with a 0-0 snoozefest which could prove crucial come the end of the season

Liverpool fans were left ecstatic at their title chances after Manchester City’s 0-0 draw with Arsenal.

The Reds emerged from this weekend atop the Premier League table after results went their way on Easter Sunday. Jurgen Klopp’s men came back from a goal down early on against Brighton to win 2-1 thanks to goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah.

They then turned their attention to the weekend’s blockbuster clash at the Etihad between last season’s champions and runners-up, who were unable to break each other down in a goalless and dull affair at the Etihad.

Liverpool are now two points clear of the Gunners and three points clear of City in first place with just nine games remaining. And the Anfield faithful were understandably delighted at how the City fixture played out, while other views were left frustrated by the uneventful affair.

One Liverpool fan wrote on X: “What a day. Liverpool winning and Man City/Arsenal drawing,” while another tweeted: “Much needed win for Liverpool and the best 0-0 draw ever.”

A third pointed out: “We got exactly what we wanted from the City Arsenal game and now if we mess it up, I'd be livid,” while a fourth added: “With City and Arsenal drawing it’s in our hands now.”

Others chimed in with: “Manchester City Vs Arsenal… Winners, Liverpool,” and: “Arsenal & Man City both drop points. Everton lose. Happy Easter Reds.

The excitement comes despite Liverpool’s assist-making hero against Brighton - Alexis Mac Allister - stating in his post-match interview that the City vs Arsenal result was not the “most important” thing.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp, who will leave the Reds at the end of the season, played coy when asked what result he was hoping for. The German said: “Both losing,” before breaking into a wide grin and walking off.

Up next for Liverpool is a visit from bottom club Sheffield United on Thursday, while title rivals City and Arsenal are in action the night before. On Wednesday, fourth-place Aston Villa go to the Etihad in another huge test for Pep Guardiola's men, while Mikel Arteta's team welcome Luton to the Emirates, where a win would at least temporarily see the Gunners go back to the top of the pile.
