FIFA president Gianni Infantino went on a jaw-dropping rant to defend Qatar as hosts of the World Cup, leaving fans to joke "we know where the beer went" in response to the ban on alcohol

Fans have joked Qatar's World Cup alcohol ban is because FIFA president Gianni Infantino drunk it all before his bizarre press conference.

Infantino addressed the wide-ranging criticisms of the tournament in front of the world's media this morning (November 19), including the last-minute U-turn to not serve Budweiser at grounds - despite that being the official beer sponsor.

The 52-year-old launched a staunch defence of Qatar for nearly an hour, and also admitted he'd tried to hold a World Cup in the strict dictatorship of North Korea. He said: "FIFA is a global football organisation. We are football people, not politicians, and we want to bring people together. Any country can host an event.

"If North Korea wants to host something - I actually went to North Korea some years ago to ask the North Koreans if they were ready to host part of a Women’s World Cup together with South Korea. I was not successful, obviously."

Infantino's revelation left fans all making the same conclusion. One wrote: "Well we know where all the Budweiser went, he's drunk."

Another echoed: "I think we know where all the Budweiser went." One joked: "If alcohol is banned how did Gianni Infantino get so drunk??"

One commented: "At least we now know where all the Budweiser went: FIFA President Gianni Infantino drank it all. What a f***wit."

Another similarly tweeted: "Now we know why there's no Budweiser in stadiums in Qatar, Gianni drank it all before starting his stream of consciousness monologue."

One slammed: "Pretty sure the reason why there won’t be alcohol on sale in Qatar for the World Cup is because FIFA President Gianni Infantino drank all of it. That one hour plus speech sounds like an incoherent car crash."

And one questioned: "Maybe they’re not selling Budweiser because Gianni Infantino has drunk it all before this press conference?"

Infantino also said he feels "African, gay, disabled and a migrant worker" because he knows what it's like to be discriminated against as he was bullied as a child for being a redhead.

Despite his speech being widely criticised, he's set to be re-elected as FIFA's president, with no one ready to oppose his leadership.
