Liverpool announce Trent Alexander-Arnold injury and is set for period on sidelines
He has been one of Liverpool's most important players, but Trent Alexander-Arnold is now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury
Liverpool have suffered an injury blow on the eve of their Carabao Cup semi-final with Trent Alexander-Arnold picking up a knee injury.
The Reds will be without the full-back for the clash with Fulham. Liverpool medical staff are still waiting to see the full extent of the injury but he’s definitely out of the cup game
Jurgen Klopp’s side face Bournemouth on January 20 before the second leg of their League Cup semi final four days later. They’ve then got an FA Cup fourth round clash with Norwich or Bristol Rovers before they return to Premier League action against Chelsea at the end of the month.
Pep Lijnders said: "First of all, some not-that-good news, Trent hyperextended his knee during the last game.
"So he has a little tear in the lateral ligament of his knee and he will need time to recover. He had a scan and he will be out for a few weeks, so let's see after that.
"He will get some rest and then hopefully he can come back to where he was. Because this guy was decisive in all the games and was the one who created constantly for us from deep and gave the team a high level of flexibility. We will really miss him."
The 25-year-old has made 25 appearances this season, contributing two goals and nine assists for Klopp's men. Aside from the Reds' consecutive 3-1 away victories against Wolves and West Ham, he has played in every Premier League match he has been available for.
He is also the third Liverpool full back to be struck down by injury. Klopp has already lost both left-backs Andrew Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas, who are both out for an extended period of time.
The German has recently solved that problem by deploying right-footed central defender Joe Gomez on the left side of the back four in their place. However, considering Gomez is normally used as cover for Alexander-Arnold, Klopp has a serious headache at the back he needs to deal with.
