The latest earthquake struck at 12.57am on Friday morning at a depth of 15km down, with a branch of one of the UK's most popular supermarkets just a short distance from it

The UK has been rocked by another earthquake – with the latest hitting right near a popular supermarket. Avid readers of the Daily Star will know that we've been reporting on every ground-shaking moment to hit the country, and since the turn of 2025 they have been happening with increased regularity.

According to the British Geological Society, the country has been hit by more than 70 so far, and they spread far and wide. And the latest struck near a huge branch of Lidl supermarket.

According to the BGS, the latest earthquake struck at 12.57am on Friday morning at a depth of 15km down. It measured just 0.9 on the Richter Scale, with the epicentre marked as an area of Ferndale, Rhondda in Wales just a short walk from the town's major Lidl branch.

No damage has been reported – although it's hard to image a 0.9 earthquake would cause much damage in hindsight.

It comes five days after one struck at 7.37am on Sunday morning at a depth of 7km down, and measuring 1.7 on the Richter Scale.

The epicentre was Glendaruel in Argyll and Bute in Scotland, just a short walk from Mechan's Grave, known for being the final resting spot of Meckan, son of Magnus, King of Norway, who was killed in the battle fought at Crudail.

The exact year the man was buried there is not known, however, the grave was opened several years ago and it was discovered that nothing was actually inside.

The area of the quake is actually a vast expanse of greenery and walking paths, which means that no damage was reported and the likelihood of any happening being quite small.

This quake comes days after another took place near a popular beauty spot with a major road marked as the epicentre.

Beoraidbeg in Mallaig, Scotland, was struck at 8.24pm on Tuesday, April 22, with the BGS detecting it at a depth of 7km down and measuring 1.2 on the Richter Scale.

The epicentre was the A830 road, which leads to the popular Silversands Beaches, where tourists flock to in the height of the summer.

No damage has been reported, however, just like no damage was caused by a duo of quakes on April 20 – despite them striking in a 90-minute span in the same spot in Bute, Scotland.

Popular with hikers, the area was struck by a small earthquake measuring 0.5 on the Richter Scale at a depth of 5km down at 8.29am.

And then just 93 minutes later, another struck at 7km down measuring the same 0.5 measurement. The area struck is in Kilbride, and near the famous Drumachloy farm near the Kyles of Bute beauty spot popular with hikers and walkers.
